Kerner Plaza – Creative Play Equipment from Germany
Located on the southern side of the park, Kerner Plaza is one of Kannonyama Park’s most popular areas. It features innovative playground equipment produced by the German playground manufacturer Kerner Stick.
The introduction of this equipment was the first project of its kind in a Japanese urban park. Slides, climbing poles, stairs, and other elements are arranged at unusual angles and connected in complex configurations, creating a distinctive playground unlike conventional play structures.
As children explore the equipment, they can naturally develop their physical strength, balance, coordination, and imagination through active play.
The area also includes nine types of equipment, with a total of 14 units designed especially for younger children. These include a merry-go-round and vehicle-themed play equipment, providing options for toddlers and preschool-aged children as well.
Large Lawn Area – A Relaxing Open Space
The northern side of the park features a spacious lawn area that stretches gently across the landscape. It is an ideal place for picnics, relaxing, casual exercise, or simply enjoying the outdoors.
On pleasant days, families and groups of friends can be seen spending leisurely time on the grass. Benches and drinking fountains are also provided, making the area convenient for taking a break during a walk.
The changing scenery throughout the seasons adds to the appeal of the park, allowing visitors to enjoy a peaceful outdoor atmosphere in every season.
Kannonyama Park Pool – A Summer Water Playground
The Kannonyama Park Pool is a popular seasonal attraction for children during the summer. Located on the southern side of the park, the facility includes a 25-meter swimming pool, a shallow splash pool, a children’s pool, and a gently flowing stream-style pool.
The 25-meter pool has eight lanes and features a raised floor area so that children can use the pool more comfortably.
The facility also provides a nursing room as well as well-equipped changing rooms and restrooms. These features make the pool convenient for families with young children and provide a comfortable environment for visitors.
From a Former Amusement Park to a Modern Green Space
The site where Kannonyama Park now stands was once home to an amusement park called Fairy Land, commonly known as Kappapia. The amusement park opened in 1962 and was enjoyed by generations of families and children before closing in 2003.
After the amusement park closed, the City of Takasaki acquired the site and began redeveloping it as a park that would make use of the natural environment of the Kannonyama Hills.
Part of the new park opened in 2016, followed by the full opening in 2017. Today, the site has been transformed into an open recreational space where nature, play, and local history come together.

Getting There
By public transportation: The Kannonyama Line of the Gururin city loop bus is a convenient way to reach the park.
By car: Parking is available at Parking Lot 1, with space for approximately 50 vehicles, and Parking Lot 2, with space for approximately 200 vehicles.
During busy periods, visitors are encouraged to use public transportation or travel together in the same vehicle when possible.
